My Neighbor’s house burned down last night

It seems it took no time at all to engulf the house. (PICS) Windows were breaking, his car was making all sorts of popping sounds, the heat was becoming intense. When we walked out of our house we saw Mr. Miles standing in his driveway with the neighbor from across the street. He was OK, but shaken. It was horrific watching it. I’ve never seen a home burn before and the fire was truly in charge. I could see it burning through the front metal door.

Then I noticed embers flying into my yard as well as my other neighbor’s yards. My son and I grabbed the hose and went to the back yard to try and keep the flames/heat from reaching us. The hose was so tangled we couldn’t get it working. Thankfully the Clinton Fire Department showed up and started hosing it down. The force from the water drove the smoke over the fence into our yard and smothered my son and I, so we went back to the front to observe.

Although Mr. Miles was OK, he had just moved in 6-8 months ago after loosing his home on the Gulf Coast to Katrina. Now he has lost everything but his life. He was telling me, “that’s 90 years of stuff I’ve just lost.” He’s staying with family that lives close by. Now he has to pick up the pieces all over again. We’ll keep him in our prayers.

Buick

I did get the Buick towed to Performance Motorsports last week. The motor is seized. Marshall was looking around for an inexpensive replacement. Found one for $650 with a 90 day warranty and a refurb with factory warranty would be around $2k. So he is taking apart the motor to see if it is something simple that can be replaced. Awaiting word from the man.

I picked up the Honda Saturday and it is in much better shape than before. Performance Motorsports of MS did a fantastic job. Wes is so proud to be driving the “jalopy.” I drove it yesterday since my Buick is out of service. Wes will be driving it a few days each week since I can car-pool with my Wife. Working with the insurance company to get it towed to Performance Motorsports of MS soon I hope.

It turns out that the transmission was the culprit. We sent the car to Performance Motorsports of MS and to date they have replaced the transmission, clutch, one ball joint and an oil pan gasket. We should have the car back today hopefully. Wes is “chomping at the bit” to get it back.

In the same instance it seems the motor in my Buick has locked up. Not sure what it is yet but am towing it to Performance Motorsports as well.

The day after Wes gets to drive it something happened and when it is placed in any gear it goes no where! CRAP!!!! Wes is so disappointed. At this time we have it slated to be picked up by Performance Motorsports to work on it. Trans/Clutch issue is out of our skill level. They are also picking up the 240 to store for me before the City sends me a fine for a non- registered vehicle in the drive-way.
